Alkyone
Alkyone is a member of the race of the Salamandra. She is a sword maiden and protectress of the Salamandran Temple of Hephaistos. The temple was built near Mt. Othrys and was decimated after power-mad Ixion used a portion of the power of the Eye of Elysium to destroy it on a whim. The lone survivor of the massacre, Alkyone has vowed to avenge her sisters and herself against him. She attacked Argus and Brutus who had stumbled onto the aftermath retracing Ixion and Tantalus’s route after they had attempted to kill Brutus as his “payment” in his part of the theft of the Eye. As a temple guardian, Alkyone is skilled at fencing and swordfighting. She is also a very aggressive and expert hand to hand combatant. She is also a great degree of acrobatic skill and capable of great feats of agility and dexterity. Also as part of her training, she is a very adept ranger, skilled in tracking, hunting, and forest combat.

Salamandra have scaled skins although it not completely scales as they do have some smooth parts on their torso and faces. Their skin is marked in patterns of lines and spots like a lizard, and can be quite colorful. The patterns can vary greatly between individual Salamandra. Their hair is actually long tentacle or taillike scaled appendages which are capable of moving independently, akin to the snake hair of a gorgon. The Salamandra exhibit extreme sexual dimorphism with great differences in the appearance of male and female members of the species. The primary difference between males and females are the presence of leathery batlike wings in males, and horns on the head and shoulders. The males also display scales reminicent of facial hair on their lips and chins, absent in the females.
